Quicklime is Calcium Oxide (CaO) also known as burnt lime. The molecular weight of CaO is 56.08 g/mol and the boiling point is around 2600 degree Celsius. It’s a white caustic, alkaline , crystalline solid which has great solubility in water and glycerol. Quick lime is prepared by heating calcium carbonate or limestone to a temperature of 1200 celsius in kiln and then it decomposes into calcium oxide and gaseous carbon dioxide. The production of quicklime is one of the oldest chemical processes developed by mankind. Quicklime- It is also known as Calcium oxide ( CaO) used for white washing.
